Planning a Festive-Season Exterior Upgrade: Realistic Timelines

A typical home exterior cladding project runs two to five weeks from order to completion, and the part people underestimate is not the installation — it is everything before it. If the house needs to look finished by a specific date, work backwards from that date rather than forwards from today.

The Stages and What They Actually Take

Deciding — a few days to several weeks

Choosing a finish sounds quick and rarely is. You need to see physical samples against your actual wall, in daylight, ideally at two different times of day. Screen images are not reliable for this.

Ordering samples, receiving them, and then genuinely deciding usually takes longer than people plan for. Start here.

Measurement and quantity — 2 to 4 days

Someone measures the elevation properly, calculates the sheet count including wastage, and confirms the framework requirement. Rushing this stage produces either a shortfall mid-project or expensive excess.

Order and delivery — 1 to 3 weeks

This is the stage with the least flexibility. If the quantity you need is in stock, delivery can be quick. If it needs a production run, or if you are ordering a quantity large enough to require single-batch supply, it takes longer.

Ordering everything in one consignment matters here — split orders risk slight shade differences between batches, which shows on a finished wall and cannot be fixed afterwards.

Framework — 3 to 7 days

The metal substructure goes up before any panel. On a straightforward facade this is quick. On a wall that needs repair first, or where the existing surface is uneven, it takes longer.

This stage is invisible in the final result and is the one most worth not rushing.

Panel installation — 4 to 10 days

Depends on area, complexity and how many openings need cutting around. A simple rectangular feature wall goes up fast. A facade with many windows, corners and level changes takes considerably longer.

Finishing — 2 to 3 days

Edge trims, sealant, cleaning up, reinstating any fittings that were removed. Always longer than anyone expects.

Working Backwards

For a moderate-sized feature elevation, allow around five weeks from first decision to finished wall. For a full house facade, allow seven to eight.

That means a project you want complete by mid-November should have started sample selection by the first week of October. If you are reading this later than that, the honest answer is that a full facade probably will not be finished in time, but a single feature volume or the gate and compound wall might be.

What Slips Timelines

The one we see most often at UVCLAD is a late shade decision — everything downstream waits on it.

  • Deciding the shade late. Nothing can be ordered until this is settled.
  • Splitting the order. Saves nothing and risks shade variation.
  • Discovering wall repairs are needed after the framework team arrives. The October inspection catches this.
  • Rain. Less of a risk now, but early October can still surprise you in some regions.
  • Site access. Large panels need a vehicle that can reach your gate. Check this before delivery day, not on it.

If Time Is Short

Scope down rather than rushing the work. A well-finished entrance feature and a clad gate completed properly looks far better than a full facade finished in a hurry with visible compromises.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does HPL cladding installation take?

Panel installation typically takes 4 to 10 days depending on area and complexity. The full project from decision to completion is usually two to five weeks.

What takes the longest?

Usually ordering and delivery, especially if a single-batch production run is needed. Shade selection also takes longer than people plan for.

Can a facade be done in a week?

Only a small feature area, and only if material is already in hand. A full house facade cannot be completed properly in a week.

What should I do first?

Order physical samples. Nothing else can start until the shade is decided.
